Associate in Science

Associate in Applied Science

Associate in General Studies

A student may select a concentration program under one of four Associate Degrees:  Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, Associate in Applied Science, and Associate in General Studies.   In addition, some programs offer certificates.  A certificate can be earned for specific courses ranging from 16-37 credit hours.  Certificates are offered in Business and Technology and other specific programs.  Associate in Arts and Associate in Science degrees are designed for the transfer student.  The Associate in Applied Science or Associate in General Studies degrees will transfer only to specific degree programs at selected colleges or universities.  Generally, these degrees will only apply toward bachelor’s degrees for which the purposes are technology occupations.  The minimum requirements are incorporated in each program in the following section of the catalog.  The student’s academic adviser must approve substitutions for concentration requirements.  The Registrar must approve general education substitutions.  Developmental courses will not be counted toward fulfilling degree requirements.  A minimum of 60 credit hours is required for all associate degrees, but many concentrations require more than 60 hours.

The Partnership for Learning and Networking (PLAN) is a collaborative set of 2+2 baccalaureate degree completion programs developed by Washburn University to expand access to higher education throughout Kansas.

The PLAN programs allow you to complete an associate degree at Labette Community College and then a bachelor’s degree from Washburn University in another two years without traveling to Topeka for classes.  The 2+2 PLAN degree programs include the:

Bachelor of Integrated Studies

Bachelor of Science in Nursing

Bachelor of Health Science

Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice

Bachelor of Applied Science in Technology Administration

These degree programs require completion of an associate degree from Labette Community College and a minimum of 60 semester credit hours from an accredited four-year university, including 30 hours from Washburn University and 45 upper division hours.  All of the required Washburn University courses are offered via the Internet, interactive television (ITV), or other instructional media.

For more information, you can contact the Director of Operation Excel at Labette Community College, (620) 820-1149.  At Washburn University you may contact Alisa Jones at (800) 633-0291, or zzwhet@washburn.edu.

Labette Community College also has an Articulation Agreement with Emporia State University.  Students can get an Associate Degree from Labette Community College and transfer into ESU’s Integrated Studies Degree, an online Bachelor’s degree.  For more information, go to http://www.emporia.edu/lifelong.

The Southeast Kansas (SEK) System Consortium of Colleges and Universities is offering an Associate Degree online.  Students wishing to earn a System degree should contact the admissions office of the college or university from which they wish to graduate for information on enrollment, financial aid, registration, and other information.  You may visit the following websites of the colleges and universities in Southeast Kansas that offer online courses toward this degree:
