Radiographic Exposure I

This course is designed to instruct the student in the application of technical principles, problem solving, and quality assurance. Automatic Exposure Control, technical factors, and equipment maintenance will be emphasized.

Medical Terminology for Radiography

Presents basic concepts and elements of medical terms, surveys terms pertaining to a study of the human body, and develops the ability to read and understand the language of medicine.  Prefixes, suffixes, word roots, combining forms, special endings, plural forms, abbreviations, and symbols are included in the content.

Laboratory study of the radiographic procedures used to visualize the anatomical structures of the spine and skull.  Laboratory setting once a week.

Introduction to Radiography, Ethics and Law

Radiography student

Introduction to historical review of health care with emphasis on Radiologic technology.  Principles of radiography, ethics, law, and radiation protection.  Also includes interpersonal communications, body mechanics, and standard precautions.

Radiography student

Principles of radiographic anatomy and positioning with emphasis on the chest and abdomen.  In a laboratory setting, the learner will demonstrate their competency in chest and abdominal radiography.

Review the principles of radiographic positioning.  Study of the anatomy and positioning of the upper and lower extremities, the shoulder girdle, and the pelvic girdle.

Review of the principles of radiographic positioning.  Study of the anatomy and positioning of the bony thorax and vertebral column.

Film composition and darkroom procedures. Principles of automatic processing, with emphasis on processing chemistry and troubleshooting.

Introduction to the care of patients while in the radiology department.  Topics include:  vital signs, infection control, patient assessment, and pharmacology.

Theory of radiographic exposure and its influence on radiographic film quality.  Applications of these theories in a laboratory setting.

Study of the biological effects of radiation on humans and patient protection.  Also included are radiation monitoring and occupational exposure and protection.

Intensive study of the anatomy and position of the skull and facial bones.  In a laboratory setting, students demonstrate competency in skull radiography.

Intensive study of the production and interaction of x-radiation.

This course encompasses the concepts and applications within advanced modality areas of radiology.

Contrast Studies

RA  5233  Introduction to Radiography, Ethics and Law

Study of examinations requiring contrast media with emphasis on the digestive, biliary, and urinary systems.  Pharmacology as related to contrast studies will also be included.  In a laboratory setting the learner will demonstrate his or her competency in radiographic positioning of these procedures.

Radiography Comprehensive Review

Prerequisite:

Radiography student

Group discussion on current topics in Radiologic technology.  Review of the principles of radiography and their application to the ARRT examination.  Mock registry exams on the computer.

Cross Sectional Anatomy

Prerequisite:

Studies the positional and functional relationships of body structures with an emphasis on their appearance as seen with Computed Tomography (CT) scanning.

Special Radiographic Procedures

Prerequisite:

RA  5470  Advanced Procedures

This course encompasses the concepts and applications within fluoroscopy, special procedures, and venipuncture.  Special Radiologic procedures include angiography, arthrography, interventional studies, myelography, and surgical exams.

Clinical Training I

RA  5234  Radiographic Procedures I

This portion of clinical training is used to acquaint the learner with the organization and function of health care facilities.  In addition, the learner will observe and assist a practicing radiographer to appreciate both the ethical and technical responsibilities associated with radiology technology.  24 hours a week for 16 weeks, for a total of 384 hours of clinical training.

Clinical Training II

RA  5286  Clinical Training I

The learner should be making the transition from the passive mode of observation to a more active mode of assisting the radiographer perform examinations of the chest, abdomen, extremities, and contrast studies.  24 hours a week for 16 weeks, for a total of 384 hours of clinical training.

Clinical Training III

Prerequisite:

Ra  5370  Clinical Training II

The learner should now be assisting with all radiographic examinations and should be making the transition from a passive mode to a more active mode of performing skeletal and fluoroscopic examinations.  24 hours per week for 6 weeks (136 hours) and 40 hours per week for 2 weeks (80 hours) at a new clinical site.  Total clinical hours 216.

Clinical Training IV

3 Credit Hours

Prerequisite:

RA  5371  Clinical Training III

Emphasis is placed on skull radiography, body section, mobile and surgical radiography.  Quality assurance procedures will also be performed, as well as exposure to other imaging modalities within the field of Radiography.  24 hours a week for 16 weeks, for a total of 384 clinical training.

Clinical Training V

3 Credit Hours

Prerequisite:

RA  5372  Clinical Training IV

Emphasis is placed on emergency and special procedure radiography.  The learner will rotate through a special procedure laboratory at one of our clinical affiliates.  IN addition, the learner will be required to successfully complete the remaining competency evaluations, and recheck competencies.  24 hours a week for 16 weeks, for a total of 384 hours of clinical training.

Advanced Procedures

RA  5236  Radiographic Procedures III

Pediatric radiography, mobile radiography, Tomography, trauma radiography, and surgery techniques will be covered in this course.
