Robert E. Brandenburg of
Parsons has received the highest honor bestowed from the LCC
Foundation & Alumni
Associations for lifetime achievement. He has
been named the 2006 Cardinal Citation Recipient.
The Cardinal Citation Award
is presented annually at Commencement. The criteria are:
nominee must be a living person who has had significant
lifetime achievements to his or her profession, community,
state or nation, nominee must have a current or past
association with Labette Community College, nominee does not
have to be a graduate of LCC
Each year Labette Community College and LCC Foundation
& Alumni recognize an individual for a lifetime of
outstanding service to their community and/or to the
college. A distinguished panel of volunteers review
nominations and recommend a Citee. The Citee is honored the
evening of Commencement during a reception for all former
Citees, their families, invited guests, and the public. The
Citee is presented a plaque and is a speaker at
Commencement. The Citee's framed portrait is hung in the
Gallery of Cardinal Citation Recipients in the college's
main administration building.
Robert E.
Brandenburg received his Associate degree from Parsons
Junior College (now Labette Community College) in 1959, and
his BS in Business from Kansas State Teachers College of
Emporia (now Emporia State University) in 1961.
Labette
County Medical Center hired Bob upon his graduation in 1961,
when it was still under construction. Thirty-four years
later, he retired from LCMC after serving as office manager
and later Chief
Financial Officer.
While working at LCMC, Bob passed the National Hospital
Financial Management Association exam and became the first
person in any Kansas hospital designated "Certified Manager
of Patient Accounts".
Bob has
always been active in his church, community and school. As
a student at PJC, he was twice elected student council
president, an achievement unmatched until last year. He was
also selected as the "Student Who Did the Most for our
School." He is a member of the First Presbyterian Church
where he is a Ruling Elder and the stewardship chair for the
last 3 years. For the last forty years, Bob has worked with
the boy scouts, 5 years as scoutmaster and the last 10 as
committee chair of Troop #2 Presbyterian Church.
For 35
years, Bob has been a member of the Kiwanis Club. He also
served 4 years on the Parsons Recreation Board as well as
being active in state and national politics. Bob served as
the Labette County campaign manger for Governor Bill Avery
and for U.S senators John Anderson and James Pearson.
He served
12 years on the USD #503 School Board, 4 years as
president. This year is Bob's 10th year as LCC
Trustee, where he served as president for 3 of those
years. He is a member of the LCC Foundation and Alumni
Board in addition to being a life member of the LCC Alumni
Association and has served 3 terms as the LCC Alumni
Association president.
Several
honors have been presented to Robert E. Brandenburg
including the Parsons Rotary Club as a Rotary International
Paul Harris Fellow; the Distinguished Service Award from
Parsons Jaycees; and the Distinguished Service Award from
Quivira Council Boy Scouts of America.
Bob and
his wife Sharon have two daughters, Jill and Bridget who
both attended LCC.
