Course Description

A basic study in communication theory and its practical application at all levels: intrapersonal (understanding the self), interpersonal (one-to-one relationships), and public speaking.  Students examine factors that influence the development of self-concept and interpersonal relationships, and deliver demonstration, informative and persuasive speeches.  Students must make weekly submissions to the discussion forum.

All correspondence and tests will occur online and via email.

 

Orientation Info

You must contact the instructor, preferably by email, as soon as you enroll in the class, so that the instructor can send you orientation instructions.  This course requires that all students have access to a video camera to deliver their speeches.  All speech assignments, with the exception of the first assignment, must be taped in a professional setting (school, town hall, church recreation room, etc.) before an audience of at least ten adults. Students are responsible for the cost of purchasing four videocassettes.
