Student Support Services, of Labette Community College, announces the October Student of the Month, Jamie Baughman, of Parsons, KS. Baughman is a Pre-Radiography major who hopes to gain admittance to the Radiography program this summer. Upon graduation from LCC Baughman intends to remain in the Parsons area where she and her family are heavily involved in the community.

Baughman has owned and operated her own daycare in Parsons for the past eight years. “After my kids were in school fulltime I decided it was my turn. I am excited to get through school and start this new journey,” Jamie said. “My family inspires me. I could not do what I am today without the love and support from my husband Lee, and our three children: Connor, 11, Natylee, 7, and Holly, 5. What I do, I do for them,” Baughman stated, proudly.

In her time at LCC, Baughman has been actively involved in Student Support Services and credits the program and its staff for helping her succeed. “I feel very lucky to be able to be a part of SSS. It has helped with the furthering of my education so much.” She continued, “By getting help with my books, getting help with homework, and by the grants they give has helped with my success as a student.” Baughman specifically acknowledged the efforts of Academic Advisor Rikke Mitchell, saying, “He has made sure that I am doing what needs to be done to better my future, and has been a major part in my success as a student.”

Student Support Services is a TRIO Program funded by the United States Department of Education to improve the persistence, transfer, and graduation rates of first-generation and income-eligible college students at LCC. Student Support Services serves 200 students each year with an annual budget of $280,000.
