Each year Labette Community College
honors an adjunct faculty member during the fall
semester. The instructor is nominated by students.
Dr. William “Bill” Wilcox recently
received the 2006 Adjunct Faculty of the Year award.
Wilcox has taught History and American Government
courses at LCC since 1999.
A passion for teaching, student
interaction, and positive learning environment are a few
reasons why students nominate instructors. Students in
Dr. Wilcox’s classes expressed each of these attributes
in his nomination letters.
“Dr. Wilcox is very concerned with
the needs of every student. He spends quality time
preparing lessons and giving students instruction on how
they can improve. This is evident in the amount of
participation that the students exhibit in the
classroom, and how much the instructor knows about the
subject matter,” said one student.
“Dr. Wilcox is a very caring
teacher who has a strong passion for his job and
students,” said another student.
“He should receive the adjunct
faculty award because he cares about the students and he
attends ball games with his spouse.”
When asked how he felt about
receiving the award, Dr. Wilcox responded, “I am so
honored my students nominated me. I enjoy teaching, it’s
what I’ve done for so long. I am truly honored to
receive this award.”
