OE Names Student of the Month

Kelly Schaffner has been named Operation Excel Student of the Month for April 2008.  Students of the Month must maintain at least a 2.7 GPA, and use OE services such as workshops, tutoring, and counseling/transferring support. Community service is also part of the selection criteria.

Schaffner, a first generation student, is a sophomore history major and resident of Parsons.  She plans to transfer to Ottawa University and complete a bachelor’s degree in missionary work.  She wants to work with children in orphanages in Romania.   

Shaffner is also active at LCC. She is President of the Christian Club, active in Phi Theta Kappa, SGA representative for Phi Beta Lambda, past senator for Student Government Association, teaches Sunday school, and leads a support group for 12-14 year old girls.    

Operation Excel (OE) is a federally funded Student Support Services TRIO Grant at Labette Community College (LCC).  Since 1990, this federal grant has helped over 3,000 students meet their educational goals.
