Jaeger Named BEN Scholar
Labette Community College Anatomy & Physiology and Biology Instructor, Dr. Mary Jaeger has been named one of the twenty 2008 BEN Scholars. BEN (BiosciEdNet) is a digital library portal for teaching and learning in the biological sciences.
The BEN Collaborative was established in 1999 by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) with 11 other professional societies and coalitions. Since its inception, the BEN Collaborative has grown from its original 11 and continues to add new collaborators. The BEN Collaborative mission is not only to provide seamless access to e-resources but to also serve as a catalyst for strengthening teaching and learning in the biological sciences.
The goal of the BEN Scholars Program is to promote the use of digital library (DL) resources and student-centered teaching and learning methods in higher education, specifically in biological sciences lecture and laboratory courses, and in research training programs.
As a BEN Scholar, Jaeger and other recipients of the award are required to attend the BEN Scholars Institute, which will be held in Washington, DC, July 9-12, 2008. Jaeger will have 2 years of professional development activities, including developing submissions for digital libraries and outreach activities.
Jaeger began teaching at LCC in 2005. She in an Associate Professor and teaches several courses including Anatomy & Physiology, Zoology, and Environmental Life Science.
