LCC Students Do Well on Exit Assessments
All students receiving an Associate degree from Labette Community College take an exit assessment exam prior to spring graduation.
These exams show how LCC students compare with other students nationally, and is a means of measuring and evaluating student learning. Studying and evaluating the outcomes of these completed exams leads to improvement in teaching and learning and is used to improve curriculum at LCC.
There are three stated purposes for offering the exit assessment testing: to enhance the student’s ability to transfer to a university or obtain a job, to help the College improve its instructional programs by measuring and reporting student progress and skills, to determine the level of educational development for individual students as a means of identifying interventions needed to prepare students for further education.
Students with academic concentrations are tested in Writing, Reading, Mathematics, Science Reasoning, Critical Thinking, Social Studies, History, Social Science, Humanities, and Computer Skills. LCC has met or exceeded our target goals from 2003 through 2007 in Writing, Reading, Mathematics, Science Reasoning, Critical Thinking, History, and Social science.
Students with Career/Technical concentrations are tested on Reading for Information, Applied Mathematics, and Writing. Target goals are based on national profiles for each job description. Our Career/Technical graduates have met or exceeded our target goals in Reading for Information and Applied Math from 2003-2007. Testing in Writing began in 2005 and LCC students have met the goal from 2005-2007.
