Christina Gibbons of Mound Valley is a nursing major who intends to graduate May of 2012.
“I have a strong compassion for people,” Gibbons said. “I personally haven’t had much experience with hospitals, but someone very close to me has, so I’ve seen how nurses can be such an important role in someone’s life even if it is for a short period of time.”
Gibbons is interested in traveling the world to assist with nurse care in other countries. She plans to further her education after leaving LCC.
Gibbons’ friends and family have been a great support and significant in her success at LCC. In addition, SSS has helped her with books, tutoring, advising and encouragement.
“This is an incredible program to be a part of. Not having to pay for at least one book is a major relief, and the financial help is great thing to take advantage of. Most of the staff that keeps SSS going are the best part of it all,” Gibbons said. “Sam Jack helped me get through college algebra, Juliana Kepner helped me decide the classes I needed to take, Brent Johnston has always had a chair ready in case I needed to vent about the stresses of school, and Kelly Kirkpatrick has given me a lot of encouragement, even when I doubted myself.”
