RESIDENCY (Tuition & Fee Purposes)
For purposes of charging tuition, LCC is required by law to determine the residency of each prospective student. Residence is a person’s place of habitation, to which, whenever students are absent they have the intention of returning. Among significant factors which may be considered, but not any one of which to be necessarily considered conclusive without support of convincing evidence, in determining intent to become a resident are: the payment of property taxes, purchase of license tags, driver’s license, location of employment and registration for voting purposes. Such factors must be at least six month’s duration and existent prior to enrollment/re-enrollment. Tax returns of the student &/or parent may be requested. If a student is under 18 years of age, the parent(s) or court-appointed guardian(s) must meet residence requirements. Undocumented individuals should contact the Registrar for clarification of their status.
At the beginning of each semester, the Registrar shall determine the residence status for tuition purposes of each student who enrolls. If the Registrar determines that the original residency classification of any student was incorrect, written notice of reclassification may be given at any time to such student, together with a statement of any additional tuition owed by or any refund due such student for any semester, and the same shall be due and payable. Students who have been recruited from another state for employment purposes only may attend at the in-state rate. The company official must provide the Registrar with an appropriate letter stating under what circumstances the individual was hired. Decisions may be appealed to the Residency Appeal Board.
