The PREP (People Reaching Excellence Through Preparation) Talent Search Program at Labette Community College serves a Tri-County area in Southeast Kansas, which includes Labette, Cherokee, and Crawford Counties.

The Goal of Prep Talent Search is to address a number of critical educational needs of the three identified counties by a multitude of services designed to increase the likelihood of disadvantaged youths, adults, and other exceptional citizens and residents who live in the service area, completing secondary education and entering the post-secondary educational institution of their choice.

Objectives

  • Recruit and enroll prospective Talent Search participants

  • Academic, learning style, and career needs assessment

  • Increase school retention/academic performance/college preparation

  • High school graduation

  • Financial Aid and college application assistance

  • Cultural enrichment through regional trips and fun activities

  • Parental involvement

  • College preparation, Financial Aid, and college application assistance for qualified adults

Program Criteria - Who can participate in PREP Talent Search?

  • Students who meet federal income guidelines

  • Students who are potentially first-generation college students (parents have not graduated from a 4 yr. college)

Recruitment

  • Middle school students 6-8

  • High school students 9-12

  • Adults not currently enrolled in college but wish to enter or re-enter college
