Labette Community College Names Dr. Jason Sharp as Incoming President

Parsons, KS — Labette Community College has announced Dr. Jason Sharp as its next president, effective with the upcoming academic year. Dr. Sharp will succeed Dr. Mark Watkins, who will retire in July 2026 after 14 years of service to the college.

Dr. Sharp has been a member of the Labette Community College community for 17 years and currently serves as Vice President of Academic Affairs. During his tenure at LCC, he has held several leadership and instructional roles, including Dean of Instruction and adjunct instructor. His career also includes service as Chief of Police for the City of Parsons, as well as work as a law enforcement coordinator and instructor for Missouri Southern State University and the University of Missouri.

Throughout his career, Dr. Sharp has emphasized the importance of visible, engaged leadership and a commitment to fostering a culture of excellence and accountability.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to step into the President’s role for LCC this next academic year,” Dr. Sharp said. “This institution has a strong legacy of serving students and the community, and I look forward to building on that foundation through collaboration, innovation, and a continued commitment to student success. I am especially excited to work alongside our faculty, staff, students, and community partners to support opportunity, strengthen our impact, and shape a vibrant future for the college.”

Outgoing President Dr. Mark Watkins will retire in July 2026 after dedicating 14 years to Labette Community College. Dr. Watkins served as Dean of Instruction from 2012 to 2017 before being named president, a role he has held since 2017.

The college looks forward to a smooth leadership transition and to continuing its mission of providing accessible, high-quality education under Dr. Sharp’s leadership.
