Parsons, KS – Labette Community College’s Public Relations Class is launching Play Strong, Live Strong: Mental Health in Motion April 21-24, 2025, to raise awareness about the mental health challenges student-athletes face. This event aims to educate athletes, promote helpful resources, and encourage open conversations about mental wellness in sports.
Student-athletes often struggle with stress, anxiety, and pressure but don’t always know where to turn for help. Many feel they have to “push through” rather than seek support. This campaign will provide tools and resources to help athletes manage their mental well-being, improve performance, and build a strong support system. Throughout the week, information will be distributed across the LCC campus and online, including research, statistics, and key facts about mental health in sports. Public service announcements will air on local radio to encourage athletes to prioritize their well-being, while flyers, banners, and online resources will help direct student athletes to mental health services.
Students who visit the LCC Student Lounge during the event can obtain valuable resources to improve their mental health. Coaches will also receive materials to distribute to help better support athletes struggling with mental health issues. A social media campaign will coincide with the event to spread awareness through engaging posts, athlete testimonials, hashtag challenges, and videos, creating an interactive space for conversation and support.
Many student-athletes face mental health challenges but hesitate to seek help due to stigma. By talking about mental health, it reduces fear and makes it easier for athletes to ask for support. Educating athletes and coaches on mental wellness creates a healthier, more supportive sports environment. Making mental wellness a priority builds stronger, healthier, and more successful athletic communities.
