Parsons, KS— Labette Community College student Macey Allison is organizing “Work for Words,” a student-led auction designed to raise funds to help LCC students purchase required textbooks when financial barriers exist. The fundraiser invites faculty, staff and local businesses to bid on participating students, with all proceeds benefiting the Debbie Groff Memorial Textbook Scholarship.
The online auction will be hosted on Facebook, with a direct link shared with LCC employees and area businesses interested in participating. The auction will open at 8 a.m. April 13 and close at 4 p.m. April 15, with winners announced April 16. Bidding will begin at $10 and increase in $5 increments.
Winning bidders will receive up to two hours of assistance from a student to complete agreed-upon tasks. Examples of services include yard work, working in flower beds, washing windows, light housework, general cleaning, and more. Work will be completed during regular business hours, Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., either on campus or at a local residence or business. Students will coordinate and schedule services with the winning bidder within two weeks of the auction’s close.
Local business owners who would like to be added to the bidders list are encouraged to contact Macey Allison at macey.allison@student.labette.edu
By helping reduce the financial burden of textbooks, Work for Words aims to empower LCC students to fully engage in their coursework and stay focused on achieving their educational goals.
